FAQ’s
Q. Who should be involved in MyEverydayLife?
A. MyEverydayLife is for everyone in everyday situations—whether you are a teacher, CEO, stay-at-home mom, accountant, construction worker, medical technician, retiree, student – well, you get the picture! It is for anyone who has relationships where they work and serve others.
Q. Is MyEverydayLife only about ministry in the workplace where I am employed?
A. Absolutely not! For many of us, MyEverydayLife will also address our ministry regardless of wherever and whenever we seek to serve and work for the Lord.
Q. Are good deeds, community service and Christian ministry included within the scope of MyEverydayLife?
A. Definitely! The scope of MyEverydayLife activities includes any acts of service (work) for the Lord performed whenever and wherever the “church” is scattered in Western North Carolina. One of our cornerstone verses for the ministry is Colossians 3:23– Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
Q. Is MyEverydayLife all about outreach and evangelism in the workplace?
A. Outreach and evangelism are certainly important components of MyEverydayLife. But MyEverydayLife also understands how important your work is to God and that you are called to bring glory to God in and through your Everyday Life. Seeing your work as an opportunity to serve and worship the Lord can revolutionize your attitudes and behavior and bring glory to the Lord.
Q. What other Scripture is important in MyEverydayLife?
A. We also see that 1 Peter 3:15 is an integral part of MyEverydayLife- But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect. If we live with Christ as Lord – day-by-day and moment-by-moment – those around us will witness this and God will use this to draw them to seek to know how they can have what they see in us.
Q. How do I join MyEverydayLife?
A. MyEverydayLife ministry is not a program you join. MyEverydayLife is more of a process through which Biltmore Baptist Church will seek to equip and help you have a greater impact in those places where you are already “working.” We want to help bring an effective focus on your whole life, including your work life.
Q. Won’t this require a great deal of training?
A. Many foreign missionaries spend a great deal of time learning the language and culture and cultivating relationships from scratch. As MyEverydayLife missionaries, you are blessed that:
- You already know the culture – you live it most waking hours!
- You already know the language – you speak it most every day!
- You already have the relationships – you interact with many people and have the opportunity to grow those relationships each day!
Biltmore Baptist Church will act more intentionally to provide resources and support to help you impact that culture and those relationships! These will include new LIFE-U>> courses, Connect Group>> teachings, and topical sermons>>. Of course many of our current discipleship programs and efforts are highly applicable and complementary to the MyEverydayLife ministry.
Q. What are some of the key elements of being effective in MyEverydayLife?
A. We have identified five components, all of which begin with the letter E. We call them E6 (E to the sixth power):
- Excellence – we should serve the Lord with excellence in everything we do.
- Engaged – we should be intentionally and proactively engaged in appropriate relationships with people in our surroundings such as our workplaces, our homes, our neighborhoods, our schools, community service or recreational settings.
- Ethical – we should conduct ourselves at all times based on Christian ethics as taught in the Bible, reflected in the life of Christ.
- Evangelistic – we should be alert and prepared whenever an opportunity arises to share with those around us how they can have a saving relationship with God through Christ.
- Encouraging – Hebrews 10:25 instructs us to “encourage one another—and all the more as we see the Day approaching.”
- Exalting – we must give God the glory for the good works, accomplishments and positive witness we have in our Everyday lives.
